Santa Catalina Tour

"26 miles across the sea..."

The Avalon airport is a great place to practice VFR approaches.
One real-world site describes it as landing on an aircraft carrier 1600' in the air.

There is no scheduled fixed-wing service to the island, however Island Express Helicopters provides helicopter service.

They also have a page with pictures of some of the areas you will see during your tour.

Touring the Island

Leave the Avalon (KAVX) airport on rwy 4, if winds allow, and circle the island making left-hand turns.  Be mindful of the two military warning areas (W-290 & W-291) to the South and West of the island.  Recommended cruise altitude is 2500'.
